History was one of the things that Aomame loved as well as sports.
She hardly read the novels, but when it came to the books related to history,
she could read forever.
The reason why she liked the history was because all the facts were related to
the specific years and the places basically . It isn't so difficult for her to memorize
era names of history. Once she grips the relations between the front, back,
left and right of various events, without memorizing the figures by heart, the name
of an era comes to remembrance automatically.
Aomame always got the highest point in the history examination when she was
in the junior high school and the high school. Whenever she met the person
who was not good at remembrance of era names of history,
she wondered: Why can't he or she do such a simple thing?
歴史はスポーツとならんで、青豆が愛好するもののひとつだった。
小説を読むことはあまりないが、歴史に関連した書物ならいくらでも読めた。

歴史について彼女が気に入っているのは、すべての事実が基本的に
特定の年号と場所に結びついているところだった。
歴史の年号を記憶するのは、彼女にとってそれほどむずかしいことではない。
数字を丸暗記しなくても、いろんな出来事の前後左右の関係性をつかんで
しまえば、年号は自動的に浮かび上がってくる。
中学と高校では、青豆は歴史の試験では常にクラスで最高点をとった。
歴史の年号を覚えるのが苦手だという人を目にするたびに、
青豆は不思議に思った。どうしてそんな簡単なことができないのだろう？

When you bring something that almost all the readers have not seen
to the novel, you need to depict it as meticulously and
accurately as possible.
What you can skip or you have to skip is the depictions of things
that almost all the readers have already seen.

小説の中に持ち込むときは、なるたけ細かい的確な描写が必要になる。
省いてかまわないのは、あるいは省かなくてはならないのは、
ほとんどの読者が目にしたことのあるものごとについての描写だ。

Aomame

The radio of the taxi played the classical music program of
the FM broadcasting. The tune was Janáček's Sinfonietta.
It didn't seem to be suitable for hearing in the taxigot stuck in traffic.
The driver also didn't seem to strain his ears to catch the music
especially ardently. The middle age's driver shut his mouth and
was watching the uninterrupted row of the car that queued up forward,
as if an experienced fisherman, standing in the bows,
who read an evil junction line between ocean currents.

Aomame sank into a back seat, her eyes lightly closed,
and listened to the music. How many people on earth could guess the tune was
Janáček's Sinfonietta, when listening to the opening melody of
Janáček's Sinfonietta? Perhaps, the middle of "very few" and "almost none".

However, for some reason, Aomame could guess it.

タクシーのラジオは、FM放送のクラシック音楽番組を流していた。
曲はヤナーチェックの『シンフォニエッタ』。
渋滞に巻き込まれたタクシーで聴くのにうってつけの
音楽とは言えないはずだ。運転手もとくに熱心にその音楽に
耳を澄ませているようには見えなかった。中年の運転手は、
まるで舳先に立って不吉な潮目を読む老練な漁師のように、
前方に途切れなく並んだ車の列を、ただ口を閉ざして見つめていた。

青豆は後部シートに深くもたれ、軽く目をつむって音楽を聴いていた。

ヤナーチェックの『シンフォニエッタ』の冒頭部分を耳にして、
これはヤナーチェックの『シンフォニエッタ』だと言い当てられる人が、
世間にいったいどれくらいいるだろう。おそらく「とても少ない」と
「ほとんどいない」の中間ぐらいではあるまいか。

しかし青豆にはなぜかそれができた。
